Pumpkin Project

If your kid ever comes home with a note from his third grade teacher and it says you have to create a pumpkin to look like your favorite character from a book....well let me show you what you might have to do.

This is how ours turned out. My Son loves those, Diary of a Wimpy Kid books that are so popular right now. He choose this for us {{rather me}} to do. How do you really bring a stick person to life? I had to think awhile, but I ended up just doing this.

I even gave this poor pumpkin some arms, legs and a backpack to match the cover of the book.

Here is my Son with the finish product. We were invited to his classroom to see the other students pumpkins they created. If I don't say so myself, I think ours was the best. ha!

Make a Custom Shirt

For years I've been making custom t-shirts. Partly because I worked in a t-shirt store in high school I found it was easy to do. Iron-On's have come a long way. Especially with the use of your computer/printer and transfer paper. First you want to buy yourself a plain colored t-shirt. Then buy the transfer sheets. The one I used for this project was for dark colored fabric, but they also make one especially for light colors. I could have used that, but since I already had the dark transfer paper, I went with this. Worked fine. Next you need to find a graphic on your computer you want to copy. Print it out according to the directions. Cut, Press on to the shirt covered with the special tissue paper the kit comes with and within minutes you have yourself a new shirt. I make Maddie a turkey shirt with the same print I used for the plate in her room. It's just so darn cute. I took some pictures of the process I went through to create her shirt. But please READ the directions on the package first before doing anything. I would do a test run, just so you have the hang of it.

Decorative Plates

I found this cute project idea using cupcake liners from this website. thedavisfamilynwa.blogspot.com She always has the best ideas and it was so simple. If you have small plates that you are not using anymore this is a great use for them. Or do what I did and buy some cheap ones at the goodwill. Sometimes I stop in there and will find plates for 25cents each. What a bargin! I like to use plates around my house for decoration so I look for pretty ones. Now I started with a Halloween cupcake liner for the first plate. You just glue it down with some mod podge and let it dry. Your done!

I didn't have anymore cupcake liners but I did have more plates. So my plan was to just "Borrow" images from the internet and mod podge those on for more seasonal plates.

Here's a cute one for Thanksgiving...

Here is a pretty turkey plate I made for Madison's room.

Here's one for Christmas....

I even made a funny one for birthday celebrations. My Son will be turning 9 next week and we are getting ready around here for his party. This will be cute to display that day.

Once I find more plates I'm making some more. It's such an easy project anyone can do!

Projects

I added a little zebra stripe ribbon to the bottom of Maddie's pants for some added design this Halloween. Then I added some bling and bedazzeled it along the edge for some sparkle. I think it turned out cute.

Then I used pumpkin molds and poured plaster inside. One for each child to paint for Halloween. I helped with maddies of course. This stuff sets up really quick so I didn't get a chance to add their handprint to the back. I will have to do that with cement next time. They loved painting them. All very different and unique I would say.

Madison's

Jared's

Brittany's

I guess Brittany's pumpkin is bleeding and got shot or something. I don't know what this teenager is thinking these days?? Ha!

That's it for the projects around here for now. Christmas is coming, so they'll sure be some more coming my way.

I'm The Big....

I finally got my gang to wear the shirts I made them a while back. I printed the sayings off my computer onto special transfer paper then ironed them onto a new white shirt. I thought they were cute for around the house and would make for a fun picture together. They tell you who they are in our little family.

A Little Creativity

I'm always thinking of new ways to turn ordinary things into something more decorative. These are a few of my recent projects.

This is a little verse I framed and decorated to put in Madison's room. I was just kinda playing around with it and suddenly realized I had the perfect embellishment for the middle of the bow.

See this really looks pretty now and adds a certain sparkle.

It was a pin that came from my Mom awhile back. Thanks Mom! :) Hope you don't mind that I used it in this way. I think it gets more use now and can be enjoyed by everyone.

Another thing I had was one of those antenna toppers from Disneyland. I was too afraid to stick it on my car out here, because I knew someone would steel it. It just has been sitting around since last Spring Break when I bought it. It finally hit me that I could turn it into a cute tassel to hang on Madison's lamp.

{{Sorry about the angle. This picture won't turn!}} I've made a few tassels, but I think this one if my favorite so far. I just love the colors. I'm going to pick up a lot more next time we are there so I can make others.

So that's I'll I can show you for now. There's other stuff, but I'll save that for another time. I'm sure I'll be making more in the mean time to share.

Jazzing up the Tree

Our Christmas decorations were getting tired and boring year after year. I was ready to jazz up the tree. I started off by using brown's, green's and gold's for the color theme.

I then turned some of our old red ornaments into something new by spray painting them with a Carmel Latte color from Krylon.

This is what became of them. They are some funky ornaments but I love how they turned out. I personalized them with what the kids have been into this year and tied some wild ribbon on top. Different right?

This is the ornament that Brittany drew on. She's ALWAYS making these little anime character's in her artwork. It wouldn't be the same if she didn't do something like this on her personal decoration.

Here is Jared's little Christmas corner (HE) put together in his room. He gathered a bunch of decorations I had left over and stuff that he made in school to put on his Charlie Brown Christmas tree. How cute right?

Do you see what I see? Look close at that card and key chain hanging from the branches.

When did Terminator become a Holiday decoration? LOL

It still looks pretty at night though. ha! So that's the way it'll stay.

I want this Bag!

I saw this Camo/Pink Bag on one of my friends blogs. (Scrap Girlz page actually!) I love it! I want one of my own with USMC Wife name tags on the front. I checked out the girls page who makes these and there is a long waiting list. Not to mention, a bit expensive to have them custom made. So I'm thinking now of trying to make it myself instead. It probably won't look as nice, but it's worth a shot. I have name tapes and some of my husbands old Cammies. Now I just need the time to do it. If I actually make one, I will post a update here.
