Chicken Fest

Each year this town has a carnival and street fair. It's called the Chicken Festival because they celebrate the great Colonel Sanders. This is the birth place of Kentucky Fried Chicken and his hometown. The very first KFC was built here and still runs today. Half is a museum, the other half is the restaurant.

At Jared's school, they have special days leading up to the festivities. Monday was "Hillbilly Day" and so he wore these old overalls with patches. I took the time last year to sew the patches on. Underneath I put him in a flannel red shirt. That was pretty redneck looking to me. What do you think?

The next day was "Crazy Chicken Hat Day." I turned one of his western cowboy straw hats into a crazy chicken hat. The crazier the better. All sorts of kids turn up with some really creative hats. I used hot glued to add raffia, plastic Easter eggs, small candy eggs, feathers and one little chick popping out of the shell for ours. On top is a stuffed red glove to look more like the top of a chicken. This is how it turned out.

It makes going to school a little more fun and my crafty side come out. This weekend is the carnival. I will be taking pictures of all the fun there.
